The Floating World
April 5 – May 1, 2012
OPENING: Thursday, April 12, 7-9 pm
The Floating World references Japanese Ukiyo-e (“pictures of the floating world”) woodblock prints. The genre featured motifs of everything from landscapes to historical tales, scenes from the theatre and characters from the pleasure districts.
The Floating World embraces the concept of a fleeting, evanescent world – moments in time, glimpses, feelings, impressions. The prints exhibited are attempts to fix these fugitive elements on paper.
